1. Our Commitment to Your Privacy
At Thread Reader, we build tools for the mind. We believe that your research, notes, and intellectual breakthroughs are yours alone. Our "Local-First" architecture is designed to ensure that your data stays on your device, giving you absolute ownership and zero telemetry.
2. Data We (Don't) Collect
Unlike traditional cloud-based research tools, Thread Reader does not store your documents on our servers.
- Personal Documents: Your PDFs, notes, and knowledge maps are stored locally on your device or in your private iCloud storage. We cannot access them.
- AI Processing: When you use AI features, processing happens via secure, ephemeral connections. We do not use your research data to train global models.
- Account Information: We collect only the minimal information required to manage your subscription via the Apple App Store.
3. Local AI Processing
Wherever possible, Thread Reader leverages Apple's Neural Engine for on-device processing. When high-performance cloud models are required, data is transmitted over encrypted channels and is never persisted beyond the immediate session.
4. iCloud Synchronization
If you enable synchronization, your data is synced across your devices using Apple's iCloud infrastructure. This data is protected by Apple's "End-to-End Encryption" (Advanced Data Protection), meaning nobody—including Apple or Thread Reader—can decrypt your files.
